Now the applied force will cause the bar to accelerate in the direction of motion and the velocity of the bar will increase as the velocity increase , eind = v Bl will increase and will be larger than the battery voltage VB.

Humor's Place in the 20th Century Novel      In her essay, â€Å"The Beautiful and Sublime Revisited,†Iris Murdoch says: The modern novel, the serious novel, does tend toward either two extremes: either it is a tight metaphysical object, which wishes it were a poem, and which attempts to convey, often in mythical form, some central truth about the human condition or else it is a loose journalistic epic, documentary or possibly even didactic in inspiration, offering a commentary on current institutions or on some matter out of history (264). Murdoch’s words do hold some truth in them. Certainly, her words can be applied to many of the most well-known modern novels from James Joyce’s Ulysses to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. However, her descriptions can just as easily be applied to the post modern novel. Though seriousness has generally been associated with modern literature, it is an aspect of post modern literature, as well. However, unlike most works of modern literature, the post modern novel does not focus solely on this seriousness, or on passing along a message of some sort. Rather, it strikes a delicate balance between humor and seriousness; between laughter and conveying â€Å"some central truth about the human condition†or â€Å"offering a commentary on†¦some matter out of history.†     Before I elaborate further, perhaps it is necessary to make a distinction between the terms â€Å"modern†and â€Å"post modern†as they will be used in this study. In the most general sense of the word, â€Å"modern†refers to those writings published before and during World War II, while â€Å"post modern†refers to the works that came after this time period.      Now that this distinction has been made, the issue of humor in modern and post modern l... ...h serious subjects, it also isn’t accurate to say that there is no humor in modern literature. If society valued people ONLY Essay
This prep is exploring the Question: Who am I? If society valued people ONLY economically (i. e. by using money) Which type of people would be the most valuable – and why? The type of people that would be the most valuable would be the people with the most skills and knowledge. Doctors and Surgeons would be very valuable, to care and treat all of the sick and injured people. Children with great education and skills would be valuable because you will need new people to tack the roles of scientists and doctors when the old ones retire. Scientists would also be very valuable, to progress with technology and research. Good teachers would be quite valuable to teach children correctly. Even dustmen would be valuable because without them litter would pile up in the streets. Which type of people would be the least valuable – and why? The homeless would not be valuable because society would not benefit from them, they could even be a hindrance because people would have to pay for them and care for them. Popstars would have little value because they don’t help society in any good way. Children with poor education would not be very valuable, because they will have no skills to use in their work when they become adults. All illiterate people would have little value because writing and reading forms a very important part of society, in Britain, today. How would you be valued – and why? I would value myself as quite unimportant, seen as I am I child with no medical or scientific skills. I am, though, receiving a very good education and could go on to learn may different skills, or alternatively I could go on to work for the council as a dust bin man.

The narrative follows a couple who majored in robotics, a digital Janitor, a human spam-bot, and two silk-collecting brothers. The couple who majored in robotics work as baby assemblers in Canada for the rich Asian families overseas. I found this aspect of the film interesting because something as essential as a baby is fabricated and made a commodity, not unlike the current relationship between North America and Asian countries and the fabrication of essentials like clothing, vehicles, and food.The director draws attention to the current situation in Asia through the contrast of the real world and Morrison's fabricated world. The digital Janitor draws attention to the mass censorship of media and the control that governments have over their countrys access to information. This Janitor enters the digital past-world through a virtual reality interface and blocks out any advertisements or sensitive information that his Asian superiors would not like shown to the public.Here Morrison to uches on aspects of todays society like the privatization of information, centralizing control, nd the actions that our governments take to ensure that protection of information and reinforce control. I found that the human spam-bot, (employed by a Nigerian â€Å"spam cartel†) was the ultimate representation of a pop-up or advertisement that we today are so irritated by. However, the slick manner in which she advertises correlates with todays marketing and advertising firms' strong motives to deceive and manipulate the consumer.Morrison takes a very interesting approach to filmmaking and narrative in general s he has completely flipped the economic and business world of today. I found that the multiple narratives gave the viewer a sense of depth and more solid understanding of what is happening today between North America and Asia with regard to economical power and the distribution of products and resources. For the art world, this film looks to the future of societies on an international level, and gives viewers the opportunity to experience life in a different light through the film itself. Application An employee has been defined at section 230(1) of the Employment Rights Act 1996, as an individual who works under a contract of employment. The Employment Act 2002 (Dispute Resolution) Regulations 2004 require employers to implement procedures for grievance and disciplinary actions. These statutory procedures have to be commenced in the first instance. This is essential for submitting employment issues before the employment tribunal. A dismissal will be deemed to be unfair, if the employer fails to adopt these procedures (Pothecary Witham Weld, 2012). Furthermore, the employer would be held liable by the court. Employees should have completed a one year of continuous service with the same company to avail the protection of dismissal rights. T his applies only to those employees who were appointed before 6 April 2012. The corresponding period is two years for employees appointed after this date. In our problem, Janice had worked for two years with the same company. Hence, she should have been provided with a dismissal notice, which was not done by the company. Consequently, the dismissal procedures conducted by the company cannot be deemed as fair. Furthermore, in instances, wherein the employer dismisses an employee via procedures that are unfair, the dismissal will be deemed to be unfair, regardless of the issues involved (emplaw, 2012). Although, Kelsey had not completed a year’s period of employment with the company, she can file a claim of wrongful dismissal against the company for not following fair procedures in her dismissal. In general, the circumstances of a particular case, will determine the action that is justified or reasonable, whenever there is a need for formal action. As such, the employment tribu nals will take into account, the size and resources of an employer, at the time of deciding on cases (Code of Practice 1 ACAS Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures, 2009). Under no circumstances, disciplinary or grievance issues should be dealt with in an unfair manner. Moreover, the ACAS has strongly recommended a thorough investigation of allegations by employers. Prior to a disciplinary hearing, particulars of the allegations have to be provided to the employee. In addition, the employee should be provided with an opportunity to explain what had transpired, and to draw attention to any extenuating circumstances (Birkinshaw & Fairclough, 2001). In our problem, Janice and Kelsey were suspected of having stolen a harddisk drive, since it was located in their jointly held locker.
